ECDLCourse Description
The European Computer Driving Licence, ECDL, is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects. We recommend that you speak to one of our advisors who will discuss your current IT skills. There are alternative beginner courses which may be more suitable. Entry RequirementsYou should have experience in using a computer on a regular basis. You must be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse, have cut, copy and paste skills and know the basics of Windows. This course is not for complete beginners. You must have attended a minimum of one of our PCP SCQF level 4 courses or be at an equivalent level. The course is based on Windows Vista and MS Office 2007. You must have access to this software if you are enrolling on this course as a distance learner. QualificationsOn successful completion you will be awarded with a BCS (British Computer Society) ECDL certificate. AttendanceThis 46 week course comprises both self study and mandatory contact with your enrolling college learning centre. Learners choose the time, place and pace at which they study and they are supported by our staff, learning can be done at the college learning centre by booking a PC, at home or on a work PC (with consent of employer). It is important to book our PCs in advance. Email support is also available. A rolling schedule of tutored sessions are available at both our Auchtertyre and Portree centres and a tutor is based in our centre in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on a Tuesday. Tutored sessions are scheduled well in advance, throughout your course and booking is essential to guarantee a place. It may be possible to attend a tutored session at one of our other college learning centres in the area subject to demand. All 7 tests must take place at a college learning centre and be completed within the 46 week period. ProgressionAfter this course you may wish to do one of our SCQF level 5 PC Passport units – Database, Internet, Word Processing, Spreadsheets or Presentations, or you may like to do our ECDL Advanced Word Processing course. Cost£230 This includes all learning materials, workbooks, access to a college learning centre computer, all tests and BCS (British Computer Society) ECDL certificate on successful completion of all 7 modules.
