ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects. We recommend that you speak to one of our advisors who will discuss your current IT skills. There are alternative beginner courses which may be more suitable.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this course is by application. Download our application form, get one from your nearest Learning Centre or telephone Admissions on 01599 566770. 

You should have experience in using a computer on a regular basis. You must be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse, have cut, copy and paste skills and know the basics of Windows. This course is not for complete beginners.

You must have attended a minimum of one of our PCP SCQF level 4 courses or be at an equivalent level.

The course is based on Windows XP and MS Office 2003.

Qualifications

On successful completion you will be awarded with a BCS (British Computer Society) ECDL certificate.

Attendance

This 46 week course comprises both self study and mandatory contact with your enrolling Learning Centre. Learners choose the time, place and pace at which they study and they are supported by Learning Centre staff, learning can be done at the Learning Centre by booking a PC, at home or on a work PC (with consent of employer). It is important to book Learning Centre PCs in advance. Email support is also available.

A rolling schedule of tutored sessions are available at both our Auchtertyre and Portree Learning Centres. These are scheduled well in advance, throughout the 12 month period and booking is essential to guarantee a place. It may be possible to attend a tutored session at one of our other Learning Centres in the area subject to demand.

All 7 tests must take place at a Learning Centre and be completed within the 46 week period.

Progression

After this course you may wish to do one of our SCQF level 5 PC Passport units – Database, Internet, Word Processing, Spreadsheets or Presentations, or you may like to do our ECDL Advanced Word Processing course.

Cost

£185 This includes all learning materials, workbooks, access to a Learning Centre computer, all tests and BCS (British Computer Society) ECDL certificate on successful completion of all 7 modules.  This is an ILA Scotland approved course. Ask your Learning Centre for more information on how to apply for this funding or call ILA Scotland free on 0808 100 1090.  Applications may take around 4 weeks. Fee waivers may apply.
