Childrens Care: Learning and Development SVQ Levels 2 & 3

Course Description

This is a one year, workplace assessed qualification which is accredited by SQA and is suitable for those employed in the childcare sector either in a supported (supervised) role (Level 2), or as a practitioner (Level 3).

Candidates will achieve 6 mandatory units:

  • Contribute to Positive Relationships
  • Help to Keep Children Safe
  • Support Children's Development
  • Use Support to Develop Own Practice in Children's Care, Learnng and Development
  • Prepare and Maintain Enviroments to Meet Children's Needs
  • Support Children's Play and Learning

In addition, candidates must achieve one other optional unit from a selection suited to their work role.

Evidence for the qualification will be provided through visual observations carried out in the workplace. A portfolio of evidence is created by the candidate to show that they have an appropriate knowledge and understanding of their job.

Entry requirements

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of 3 Standard Grades, one of which should be English. However, mature candidates with considerable experience in the sector will also be considered.  You must be in full employment.

Qualifications

Following successful completion, you will achieve SVQ Level 2 or 3 of Children's Care; Learning and Development.

Attendance

This course is completed in the workplace - normally within a year.

Progression

This course provides progression to other childcare courses at a higher level and  good foundation skills that could be useful in many job roles, or for self employment.

Cost

This course is FREE,  funded via the European Social fund  and there may be limited support towards the costs of travel or childcare.
