Communication Level 3 (SCQF 5)  Open Learning

Course Description

Do you want to build your skills and confidence in communication? Through this open learning course you will develop your understanding of a range of written communications; produce writing for different purposes; and demonstrate listening and speaking skills for effective communication. Your tutor will help you choose the right unit level for you.

You will demonstrate your skills by the completion of assessments.

  • Two writing tasks
  • One listening task
  • Two speaking tasks

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course although a basic level of achievement  in communication would be desirable. If you are unsure, please call your nearest college learning centre now to find out more and we can arrange for you to discuss the course with the tutor.  You will need to bring a note pad and pen.

Qualifications

National Unit. On successful completion of assessments you will be awarded with the relevant SQA Communication award.

Attendance

This is a flexible learning course which requires 40 hours of study and should be completed within six months from the date of enrolment. You may complete the bulk of your studies at home or choose to attend your nearest college learning centre for a learning space where support will be available.  Attendance for assessments is mandatory.

Progression

Progress to Communication 4 and Literature 1 which together are accepted by some universities and colleges as equivalent to Higher Grade English.

Cost

£80 including learning materials, workbooks, access to a college learning centre and tutor support.  This is an ILA Scotland approved course.
