Digital Communication Methods at SCQF level 3

Course Description

So what is digital communication? It’s all about our reading, writing and oral skills whilst using digital communication devices. We’re living a digital lifestyle these days – with computers, mobile phones, televisions, the internet, email, video conferencing, and digital photography…the works! Want to get your head around it all and join in with the best of them?

This course is a great way to find out about the range of digital communications devices – what they are and how to use them, what’s cheap, what costs and how to avoid any hazards.

This short course with tutored sessions and mentor support will have you using computers and other digital communication modes to read, write, speak and listen – the digital way.

  • You will learn how computing can assist you in formatting your writing for business skills such as letters, emails and reports
  • You will discover how to get your message across in notices, leaflets and posters with the aid of computer packages
  • You will learn how to create visual displays to complement your oral presentations
  • You will be introduced to using digital cameras and photo Management and editing software
  • You will find out about netiquette and how to use it for communication in email
  • And you will discover more about other digital communication devices such as mobile phones, Bluetooth, SMS internet forums and web logs (blogs), video conferencing and podcasts 

Entry requirements

You may have already done our Absolute Beginners course, but you do not need any experience to attend this course. You will be encouraged to practise skills between sessions and following the course. This can be done at your college learning centre.

Qualifications

During this course you will carry out an assessment and on successful completion you will be awarded one SQA credit at SCQF level 3.

Attendance

This is a flexible 6-week course comprising of six informal, tutor led sessions, each session a week apart. It is a hands-on, tutored course for small groups, with plenty of practise and time for questions. We strongly recommend that you attend all tutored sessions, where possible.

Progression

Cost

This course costs £72.   The cost of this course includes all tutor based learning materials, access to college learning centre pc, assessment and SQA certification of successful completion.
