Introduction to Child Care

Course Description

The Early Education and Childcare sector is a rapidly growing industry across Scotland with a wide range of employment opportunities within it.

This course will give you the experience you need to progress to further study in this sector or into employment in this field. It also provides qualifications at the standards required by legislation.

Its a fun, hands on introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to work with children aged 0-12 years. Through practical workshops and tutor-led sessions, you will gain a basic understanding of key milestones in childrens' development and how they impact on their learning. You will have the opportunity to explore and experience children's play and discover its importance in their growth. You will also have the opportunity to develop a basic understanding of the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of childcare settings.

The course will cover the holistic study of children. It will cover areas such as:

  • Child Development
  • Working in Early Education and Childcare (EEC)
  • Play
  • Maintaining a safe environment

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements - its suitable for anyone interested in working with children. However a good general education and ideally Intermediate 1 or 2 at Standard Grade.

Qualifications

Following successful completion of the course, you will achieve an SQA Intermediate 1 level in Early Education and Childcare.

Attendance

This course requires attendance of one day per week for 16 weeks, 9.30-3.30pm.

Progression

This course provides progression to other childcare courses at a higher level and good foundation skills that could be useful in many job roles, or for self employment.

Cost

This course is FREE, funded via the European Social fund and there may be limited support towards the costs of travel or childcare.
