Course Description

The internet is a wonderful resource and provides an excellent means of communication. Once you can use it you’ll wonder how you managed without it! This course for anyone wanting to learn how to get online and use the Internet for research, work, shopping, ordering, emailing, learning and fun.
By the end of this course you will be able to complete the class exercise by using the Internet:- to find information using a search engine; to send an email reply; to access and take part in online learning.
* You will learn about getting online and surfing the Internet
* You will learn how to access search engines and how to find the information you want
* You will learn how to print out information
* You will learn how to send and receive emails using Outlook Express.

Entry requirements

You need to be able to use a mouse and have basic keyboard skills.  If you are a beginner, you must have completed an Absolute Beginners course or be at an equivalent level.  You should be able to create, print and save documents on a regular basis. 

Qualifications

College Learning Centre Certificate.

Attendance

This is a short course of normally 3 weeks during which there will be three tutored sessions.  You are encouraged to practise skills between sessions and you will need an Internet ready PC at home or you can choose to book a computer, free of charge, at your nearest college learning centre.

These courses are available at all of our college learning centres in Portree, Staffin, Sleat and the Kyle area. 

Progression

After gaining this certificate, you may like to study one of our PC Passport SCQF level 4 courses.

Cost

£72 This includes all learning materials, workbooks, access to a college learning centre computer.  This is an ILA Scotland approved course. Ask your college learning centre for more information on how to apply for this funding or call ILA Scotland free on 0808 100 1090.  Applications may take around 4 weeks.
