Literature 1 (Open Learning)

Course Description

This course aims to develop your skills of analysing literature, gaining an insight into literary themes and stylistic techniques as well as the social and moral concerns of the writers.

You will demonstrate your skills by the completion of:

  • An essay of at least 500 words comparing texts from two literary genres
  • An essay of at least 500 words critically evaluating a literary text
  • Answers to questions set on an unseen text demonstrating your understanding of its ideas and meaning.

 

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course although achievement at Communications 3 or an equivalent level of proficiency in communication would be desirable.  If you are unsure, please call your nearest collete learning centre to find out more and we can arrange for you to discuss the course with the tutor.

Qualifications

On successful completion you will be awarded with the relevant SQA communication award.

Attendance

This is a flexible learning course with requires 40 yours of study and should be completed within six months of enrolment.

Start Date and Venue

Flexible. Progression

You may wish to undertake Communication 4 which complements this unit and, together, these units are accepted by some universities and colleges as equivalent to Higher Grade English. Ask us for more information.

Applications may take around 4 weeks. Costs include tutored sessions, assessments and certification at the end of the course. Learners will be expected to purchase, or borrow from a library, their own texts.
