Maths Higher

If you missed out on this qualification at school and need it now to help gain entry to Higher Education, or you simply want to refresh your skills, this may be the course for you. This nationally certificated course aims to build on your current knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics and introduce you to elementary calculus.

Course Description

The course consists of three units -

Mathematics 1 – this unit covers topics such as the properties of the straight line, functions and graphs, basic differentiation and recurrence relations.

Mathematics 2 – this unit covers basic integration, circles, trig formulae and equations and polynomials and quadratic theory.

Mathematics 3 – this unit covers further differentiation and integration, logarithmic and exponential functions and further trigonometric relationships

Assessment  Process  Internal assessments (marked by your tutor) take place throughout the course. You will also sit an preliminary exam in February at the collge learning centre and an external exam in May 2009 which comprises of two papers which will last approximately 2.5hrs in total.

Entry Requirements

To achieve this qualification you should already have achieved Maths at Standard Grade at credit level or the equivalent.

Qualifications

On successful completion you will receive a Maths Higher SQA certificate which is at SQCF level 6.

Attendance

The course will run for 32 weeks with a 2.5 hours tuition session each week which you are required to attend. You will need to be motivated and prepared to study at home or book a space at one of our college learning centres to complete the additional course work.
