Maths Intermediate 1If you want to refresh and improve your maths skills, this may be the course for you. It would also be a useful stepping stone to achieving a qualification at a higher level. Course DescriptionThe course consists of three units - Mathematics 1 – During this unit you will cover basic calculations, and perform them in everyday contexts, use basic geometric properties and learn to Evaluate expressions and formulae. Mathematics 2 – This unit covers integers, speed, distance and time, pythagorus theory, using simple graphs, charts and tables and basic statistics Mathematics 3 – During this unit you will perform simple algebraic operations, use graphical relationships, use trigonometry in a right-angled triangle and use standard form. Assessment Process Internal assessments (marked by your tutor) take place throughout the course. You will also sit an preliminary exam in February at the college learning centre and an external exam in May 2009 which comprises of two papers which will last approximately 2.5hrs in total.
Entry RequirementsTo achieve this qualification you should already have achieved Maths at Standard Grade foundation level or the equivalent or completed numeracy units at Access 3 or Intermediate 1 level. QualificationsOn successful completion you will receive a Maths Intermediate 1 SQA certificate which is at SCQF level 4. AttendanceThe course will run for 32 weeks with a 2.5 hours tuition session each week which you are required to attend. You will need to be motivated and prepared to study at home or book a space at one of our collee learning centres to complete the additional course work.
