Maths Intermediate 2If you want to refresh and improve your maths skills, this may be the course for you. It would also be a useful stepping stone to achieving a qualification at a higher level. Course DescriptionThe course consists of three units - Mathematics 1 – this unit covers topics such as calculations involving percentages. using formulae to find volumes of solids, linear relationships, algebra and the properties of the circle. Mathematics 2 – this unit covers using trigonometry, solving linear equations, using graphs, charts and tables and simple statistics . Mathematics 3 – this unit covers algebraic operations, properties of quadratic functions and further trigonometry. Assessment Process: Internal assessments (marked by your tutor) take place throughout the course. You will also sit an preliminary exam in February at the college learning centre and an external exam in May 2009 which comprises of two papers which will last approximately 2hrs in total. . Entry RequirementsTo achieve this qualification you should already have achieved Maths at Standard Grade general level or the equivalent. On successful completion you will receive a Maths Intermediate 2 SQA certificate which is at SCQF level 5.AttendanceThe course will run for 32 weeks with a 2.5 hours tuition session each week which you are required to attend. You will need to be motivated and prepared to study at home or book a space at one of our college learning centres to complete the additional course work.
