National Certificate for

Door Supervisors

A recognised qualification by the British Institute of Innkeepers Awarding Body (BIIAB). 

From November 2007, Door Supervisors require a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority. To obtain this Licence, you will need to satisfy three requirements:

1.  Pass an identity check

2.  Pass a criminal records check

3.  Possess a recognised door supervisor qualification such as that shown here.

Course Description

The course has been developed and will be delivered by the British Insitute of Innkeepers Awarding Body.  It has been designed to combine workplace learning and experience with sessions delivered by a tutor covering all aspects of the qualification.  There is a short multiple choice examination at the end of each unit.

Thre are two units within the course;

  • Unit 1 - Roles and Responsibilities of Door Supervisors
    This includes: admission policies and procedures, refusing entry, searching, seizing articles, eviction, use of force and offensive weapons, how to deal with incidents, studying relevant legislation and how to comply with the law, drugs, arrest, scene preservation and report writing.
  • Unit 2 - Conflict Management for Door Supervisors
    This includes managing conflict by applying dynamic risk approaches, understanding the importance of self-awareness and acting proactively, how to defuse conflict by overcoming communication blocks, signalling non-aggression and managing high-risk situations, how to resolve conflict, and how to learn from conflict.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

BIIAB Certificate.

Attendance

The course will be tutor led over 2 x 2 day units, each unit comprising 15 hours in total.  A handbook is provided which will outline the content of the course and which will contain all the knowledge required to pass the examinations. Attendance a both units is required .
