Numeracy SCQF 3 to 5

Open Learning

Course Description

Need to be flexible with your study time?  Try distance learning for these units.  They are a good way to brush up on your numeracy skills for personal, social, work or study purposes. You’ll carry out around 40 hours of study for each unit and can progress from one unit to the next or on to Core Maths units. The aim is to develop your confidence with use of number in everyday activities.

There are four main areas of focus which become more complex at level 5.

  1. Reading and using scales – for measuring length, weight, temperature and volume;
  2. Understanding graphs – interpreting information from bar graphs, line graphs, charts and diagrams;
  3. Creating graphs – drawing accurate graphs, charts and diagrams;
  4. Using a range of numerical skills in everyday contexts – using whole numbers, fractions, percentages, decimals, carrying out calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide), using formulae, solving numerical problems and using a calculator effectively.
