PC Passport: Word Processing Level 1

Get confident and get going with your PC! This excellent beginners course is for anyone wanting to be able to use a computer for creating simple documents with Word. At the same time it will introduce you to basic terminology and how to find your way around your PC.

This course can take up to 40 hours of learning which will depend on your current level of skill.

Course Description

During this course you will learn about basic terminology relating to computers and how to use the keyboard and mouse. You will find out about files and folders, opening and closing Microsoft Word and opening, saving, printing and closing documents.

In doing this you will learn about:

  • creating documents
  • entering and editing text
  • using the Help system
  • formatting
  • inserting graphics
  • spell checking
  • changing the page setup
  • previewing documents
  • working with printers

By the end of the course you will have correctly completed a series of short practical assignments, covering the course content as listed above.

Entry requirements

You should already be able to use a mouse and keyboard proficiently before starting this course. You must be able to copy type a couple of paragraphs of text with out errors and be able to use bold, italic and underline and save the document. If you are intending studying some of this course at home, then you need a PC and Microsoft Word.

Qualifications

On successful completion of the assignments you will be awarded with a SQA PC Passport Word Processing Level 1 Certificate.

Attendance

This course can take up to 40 hours of learning which will depend on your current level of skill and has two different learning routes.  The tutored route consists of 6 - 8 classes lasting 2½ hours, scheduled 1 week apart. (classes will run subject to viable numbers).  If you choose our flexible self learning route, you have 16 - 20 weeks from the start date of your course to complete the assignments. You may study at home or in the supportive environment of our college learning centres. However, there are regular assessments which must be carried out at the college learning centre and these times will be planned with you.

Cost

£64 This includes all learning materials, workbooks, access to a college learning centre computer, assessment and SQA certification on successful completion.  This is an ILA Scotland approved course.
