PC Passport: Introduction to the Internet and On-line CommunicationsCourse DescriptionExplore the Internet with confidence and email friends and gain a beginner qualification. This excellent beginner’s course is for anyone wanting to be able to use a computer for browsing the internet and sending emails. On successful completion you will be awarded a PC Passport: Introduction to the Internet and On-Line Communication Intermediate 1. If you wish to progress, you could consider one of the other PC Passport units, the ECDL Internet module or an Introduction to Web Design. You will learn about basic terminology relating to hardware and software. You will learn how to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to open, save, print and close web pages. This will include: basic internet theory; web addresses and hyperlinks; History and Favourites; search engines; online forms; how to send, receive, reply to and forward emails with attachments; how to add addresses to an email address book. By the end of the course you will have completed a series of short practical assignments. Entry requirementsYou should already be able to use a mouse and keyboard proficiently. You must be able to copy type a couple of paragraphs of text without errors and be able to use bold, italic and underline and be able to save a document. You should be able to use the internet for research and be able to navigate easily. Ideally, you should have completed Absolute Beginners and one of our Digital Literacy units. If you are unsure about your level, please call your nearest college learning centre to find out more. If you intend to study some of this course at home, you will need a computer, Microsoft Internet Explorer and an email account. QualificationsOn successful completion you will be awarded with a PC Passport: Introduction to the Internet and On-line Communicationstion SCQF level 4. AttendanceThis course can take up to 40 hours of learning which will depend on your current level of skill and has two different learning routes. The tutored route consists of 6 - 8 classes lasting 2½ hours, scheduled 1 week apart. (classes will run subject to viable numbers). If you choose our flexible self learning route, you have 16 - 20 weeks from the start date of your course to complete the assignments. You may study at home or in the supportive environment of our college learning centres. However, there are regular assessments which must be carried out at the college learning centre and these times will be planned with you.
