Course Description

Have you spent time looking after kids and want to get back to work?  Have you had a gap from education and are not sure how to get started?  Do you want to gain practical skills and a qualification for your CV?

Boost your confidence and get qualifications at the same time. This short, tutored course might be just up your street. What’s more, it is delivered at a learning centre near you

The course is highly practical and will involve working and getting on with others. It will be fun and enjoyable, but you must be prepared to work hard.

You will learn about the effective use of IT in an office context and gain experience by completing work-based tasks. There will be the opportunity to develop letter, CV and report/study writing skills and throughout the course you will practise customer care and communication techniques. By the end of the course you will have acquired essential skills and confidence for working in a small business or for progressing in further education. In summary:

  • you will have developed your ability to communicate well and work with others
  • you will have improved your proficiency in using on-line communications, office applications and IT systems

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, all applicants must be able to demonstrate their commitment to attending and completing the course. If you have never used a PC, then we would suggest our Absolute Beginners course first.

Qualifications

The units in this course include 3 new PC Passport units at SCQF level 4 and Communication at SCQF level 4. You will be awarded with a National Progression Award on successful completion of all three PC Passport units.

Attendance

This short, part-time course requires full attendance of 1 day each week over a period of 16 weeks. You will also be expected to complete homework between class sessions. This will require the use of a computer which you can book at the learning centre.

Progression

This course also provides well articulated progression routes. The suite of Digital Media Computing awards provide an entry point to qualifications in computing and IT and a pathway towards Higher National units and courses, such as HNC/D Computing.
